Geographical Location

New York is located on the east coast of the United States in the New York Bay on the mouths of the Hudson River and East Rivers in the Atlantic. The city with the geographical coordinates 40.42 degrees north latitude and 74.00 degrees west longitude is an average of six metres above sea level, in direct proximity to Jersey City. The center is located on the island of Manhattan, the rock as a pointed tongue between Hudson and East River. From the river banks is taking the development of the city with a wealth of other suburbs of large cities and reaches far into the country inside. The rivers separating the center of New York by the municipalities Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Iceland (originally: Richmond). The city has a land area of 785.6 square kilometres (see Berlin 891.85 km ²). The New York Metropolitan Area has an area of 27,084 square kilometres (see the Land of Brandenburg 29.478,61 square kilometers).
